Artists for Amnesty
Sing, paint, design, create, act, write for rights!
We are more than 200 artists across Canada who are using our talents to help Amnesty International celebrate, promote and protect human rights.
Contact us today - let's talk about how we can work together. The opportunities are varied and exciting.
Since 1981, we have organized or participated in benefit concerts, a major writers' conference, theatrical performances, celebrity auctions, and art and poster exhibitions.
We have produced public service announcements, a video petition, original music, training teams, electronic billboard messages, banners, t-shirts, cartoons and posters.
Our members include links from their websites to our site at www.amnesty.ca, and they voice their support for Amnesty International on tour and at other public events.
On occasion, Artists for Amnesty members have also taken action on behalf of artists who are victims of human rights abuse.
Artists can play a critical role in expanding public awareness and concern for human rights.
Artists also help fund Amnesty's independent research and campaigns. Remember that Amnesty is one of the rare organizations that does not accept money from governments.
Human rights are on the line wherever artistic expression is under threat. Artists know what it means to be persecuted. They know why it's critical to defend human rights. That's why Artists for Amnesty members have a vital role in Amnesty International.
Reasons to get involved
- You have the stage. People are listening. Many artists have great opportunities to encourage fans to get involved in Amnesty International and help defend human rights.
- Artists around the world are tortured, imprisoned, 'disappeared' and forced to flee for safety because of their art. Your involvement affirms - and helps protect - the human rights of other artists.
- Amnesty International's human rights work depends on financial support from members of the public. We do not ask for or receive government funding. Contributions in kind or through arts events are a vital way to support Amnesty's human rights work.
- Amnesty International is among the most trusted and best known human rights organizations in the world. Expressing your personal support for Amnesty identifies you with Amnesty's human rights mission and effectiveness.
- Amnesty International depends on and values the in-kind contributions of specific skills and resources - especially in areas such as graphic design, radio production, street theatre and other high-impact publicity actions.
