Justine Masika Bihamba: Threatened for protecting victims of rape

Justine BihambaIn the middle of the tragic conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the military and armed groups are targeting women through acts of sexual violence and intimidation, particularly directed at women who speak out against the violence and seek to help others who have become victims of these attacks.

Justine Masika Bihamba and her family of six have been harrassed and intimidated as a result of Justine's work as the director of  the women’s organization Synergie des femmes contre les violences sexuelles (SFVS) which seeks to help women who have been targeted for sexual violence in the conflict in the DRC.

Justine needs help from Amnesty International supporters.

  • the immediate protection of human rights defender Justine Masika Bihamba and her family

  • an immediate, full and impartial investigation into the attack, including attempted rape and sexual assault, on Justine Masika’s family

  • for those responsible to be arrested, tried and brought to justice, and

  • an end to attacks and harrasment of women activists in eastern DRCs
