It concerns me that the people who try to do a days honest work are not cherished and valued. Instead armed thugs are allowed to run the country through inaction. I hope that appropriate steps against the perpetrators will be taken soon.

I am glad that you could read my concern about your people in your country. I don't want to be rude, but you could make your county a very rich country, if you could keep your visitors and your own people save from these killings. Your country has a bad reputation of killing these trade unions. 2500 trade unions have been killed since 1986. That’s a lot of people. People from all over the world are scared to come to your beautiful country. You can make a lot of money from the people who come to your country. It would make them feel good if they could know that they will be safe when driving through your country. Thanks again for listing to my concern for your country and your people.

Mr. Arana the world is watching the Colombian government and its president Mr. Uribe. Canada in particular is closely observing what the Colombian government is doing in protecting trade unionists. Also of interest to us is how the government's justice system fights impunity. Is justice served in Colombia? Are the murderers prosecuted and imprisoned to discourage others from committing the same crimes? Many Canadians are pressuring the Canadian government to keep a very close eye on the Colombian government. We want persons like Mr. Correa to feel they can defend their co-workers without fear of death. Please protect Javier Correa.

It makes me sad to think that Colombia, which is one of the most beautiful countries in Latin America, still has these problems of unrest and of not being able to control groups, such as FARC and the militias. Of course, ordinary and innocent Colombians are often caught in the middle.

This man is risking his whole life - and his family's safety - to defend the basic rights of workers. I sincerely hope that you find the courage to do the same - and defend him.

I am extremely concerned about this issue as I taught in Colombia, SA and know first hand of the brutalities people face at the hands of paramilitary groups. I urge you to take action immediately. Thank you.
