To:
Minister of Justice Wu Aiying Buzhang
People's Republic of China
Your Excellency,
I am adding my voice to the thousands who calling for the immediate and unconditional release of Shi Tao, a journalist and writer who was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in April 2005 for allegedly "supplying state secrets abroad" when he sent an email to an overseas colleague.
I urge you to free Shi Tao without delay and without conditions, as he is a prisoner of conscience, detained only for exercising his fundamental right to freedom of expression. I call on you to make sure that he has full and regular access to his family and to proper medical treatment, and that his family’s safety is guaranteed.
I also urge you to take effective measures to ensure that human rights defenders are allowed to carry out their peaceful human rights activities without fear of arbitrary detention, harassment, intimidation or other human rights violations.
Add your own personal message about this case:
(Please note, it is not appropriate to mention Amnesty International in appeals)
Sincerely,
