AI Canada feature films on Guatemala and Mining

AI Canada feature films on Guatemala and Mining

AI Canada is working with filmakers to promote films which explore the impacts of Canadian mining operations on human rights and inspire Canadians to take action in defence of human rights. These films are available for screening in your community.

HEART OF SKY, HEART OF EARTH follows "six young Maya in Guatemala and Chiapas through their daily and ceremonial lives, revealing their determination to resist the destruction of their culture and environment. As corporations go to the ends of the earth to extract all value, all resources, they put forth a wholly indigenous perspective in their own words, without narration. Each story touches upon a facet of the current global crisis, [especially regarding mining]".

GOLD FEVER "[documents the arrival of Canadian company] Goldcorp Inc to a remote Guatemalan village. 500 years after the conquistadors invaded, and still reeling from decades of US-backed intervention, the town of San Miguel Ixtahuacán is caught at the front lines of an increasingly globalized world. Meanwhile, in the North, fearful investors flock to gold and some call for the return of the Gold Standard. “What is the value of the one place we have to live?” Commentators Noam Chomsky, Magalí Rey Rosa, and John Perkins draw connections between the stratospheric forces of Wall Street and San Miguel’s struggle".
