Around the world, police and courts fail to treat violence against women for what it is -- a serious human rights abuse that the authorities must take action to prevent.

Torture is universally condemned. Yet the threat of torture remains a daily reality for people around the world.
Part of the problem is that people who commit or order torture are often above the law.
At the same time, many sectors of society -- including political dissidents, accused criminals, Indigenous peoples, ethnic minorities, lesbians and gays, and often women in general -- are denied the full protection of the law.
Amnesty International is campaigning to stop torture and ill-treatment by calling on governments to observe one basic principle: No one should be above the law and no one should be denied the full protection of the law.
It's time to speak out for justice!
