A Message from Eve Goldberg
When I saw the monks being beaten and taken away by force in Burma*,
I felt outrage – and I felt powerless. What could an ordinary person like me do from halfway around the world?
I couldn’t stop the military in Burma, but one of the things I felt I could do was bear witness to the events there, and remind people here in North America that the people of Burma are counting on us. That’s how my song “The Streets of Burma” was born.
I turned to Amnesty International because it has thousands of members
around the world who are speaking up for justice and freedom in Burma. And I know they can help free prisoners and stop torture.
I really believe that we must raise our voices one by one – and Amnesty International is one of the best ways I know to make my voice count.
Please send the e-postcard below to free the imprisoned monk U Gambira.
And please make your voice count in the days to come by taking action through its e-bulletin “Speak Out” or by joining Amnesty International.
