We are on a slippery path with these weapons. And they are a weapon, more training is needed and more over guide lines for their use. Officers misusing these devises MUST also be held accountable for there actions. That is the only way we are going to stop these criminally negligent deaths.
Anthony Humphrey - Smiths Falls, Ontario

It is very concerning that the victims in these related deaths, have mainly been men with substance abuse or psychiatric conditions, both of which are medical illnesses. This, in itself, calls for an in-depth look at how our law enforcement deals with two of the most vunerable groups in our society.

I really hate to say it, but I now have a disturbing fear of the police. There is no reason any officer should be justified to use untested means to subdue someone being belligerent, or someone who they would just rather not put the effort in to subdue otherwise. The use of tasers should be limited to people directcly threatening the lives of officers ; in fact the "offender" should need to have a weapon of some sort. Please guys do not kill todays youth

Tasers are not non-lethal weapons so much as they are "less lethal" weapons. They should be used in situations that previously would have required the use of a gun. They should not be used in situations where lethal force is inappropriate, such as subduing a suspect who is not posing a significant threat to the officer. If used responsibly, Tasers could potentially reduce the number of lives needlessly lost. Unfortunately, they have been used irresponsibly too many times. The need for clear guidelines on Taser use is clear.

Stop treating human beings like cattle. We are Canadians; we are supposed to be more civilized than that. Ban this wretched device.

What's the number of gun deaths by law enforcement vs. Taser deaths? I'm an electrician and one of the first things taught is no amount electric shock is safe. Shocking people not in sound physical condition is akin to Russian Roulette. I've seen video's of women and men being tasered for traffic violations because they've pulled temper tantrums. People on drugs or medications have no way of protecting themselves from this insanity. Wake up and do us all a favor. For once put the Corporate world behind a citizens fate. We've been fine with alternatives all these years. I'd rather be shot in the leg or or arm vs being tasered numerous times.

Sadly the RCMP is no longer a proud symbol of Canada for me. Tasers are no substitute for good police work and should be banned.

Tasers suck. please don't keep them in Canada. or if you do, train the police how to use them better.

Find another way. Tasers are proving to be much too dangerous. I don't think that death is a fair out come for bad behaviour.

I think if police have the opption to use Tasers, they should know the situation first. Using Tasers with out the knowledge, can and most of the time cause death. Tasers are weapons and police need to treat it like a gun. they don't shoot guns always, why should they turn to Tasers right away?
Danean Edgar - Grenfell, Saskatchewan

i think police should try to use comunication other than Tasers right away. Tasers are dangerous and put lives at risk. Or they could change what Tasers do like instead of shocking the perosn with high voltage, it could put them to sleep for 20 minutes, so that police could think about the situation every human needs time to think about what to do next intead of turning to tasers.
Bailey maxwell - Grenfell, Saskatchewan

I am as stunned and wounded by this excessive, thoughtless use of a Taser as the many who have been tasered. This is not how I want my tax dollars used by Canadian police.

Perhaps the moratorium on TASERS should also include how many individuals have suffered seizures or other health problems after being tasered...I have a feeling that the numbers would knock the country out of their rocking chairs...I have read quite a bit of stories regarding the tasers being used to wake up someone that is asleep...hmmm would you or your body or heart be able to handle this type of shock...I know my answer is "NO"...so many cases of there was no need to use the weapon but they are considered safe...too much power with this weapon and no standardization...PEOPLE THIS IS CANADA...totally unacceptable!!!!! We are becoming so tolerant of violence in this country by even our own whom are sworn to serve and protect and you wonder why the Police get no cooperation from communities. The numbers are staggering on how many citizens feel harrassed by police across this great country of ours...tasers being used far too often...it is a shame...shame shame on Canada a peaceful country known throughout the world for protecting human rights...maybe we really need to look within for a while and go back to preserving our own Canadian Citizens the same rights!!!!!

Guidelines must be set for the use of Tasers by Canadian Police forces. I am a strong advocate of Canada's police; but the unnecessary deaths and ill advised usage in Canada are a disgrace and a tragedy.

I have an adult child with schizophrenia. I am concerned about her safety during violent episodes (none for 8 years, thank God) and for the safety of others. We need a better way than the taser as it is now employed to ensure the safety of all.

The number of taser-related deaths has grown, and shown tasers to be a unacceptable form of weaponry. The use of them must be stopped, or at least carefully monitored. It appears that more often than not, those killed by tasers are often suffering from a form of mental illness, and these killiings must stop.

Misuse of tasers and deaths from tasers continue in Canada. What restrictions are in place on the use of tasers while we await the completion of studies. You are in a position to convince authorities to impose a moratorium, especially in places where unnecessary tragedies have been occuring through improper use of tasers.
