On July 26, 2006, Julius Arile, a survivor of armed violence from Kenya, handed the Million Faces petition to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan.
This visual petition is part of Control Arms, a campaign run by three non-governmental organizations including Amnesty International. The petition demands that governments take effective action to control the global arms trade.
“I am the millionth person to have joined the Million Faces Petition,” Julius Arile said. “I have done so because my country Kenya has suffered a great deal as a result of small arms.”
Featuring people from more than 160 countries - including over 14,000 Canadians - the Million Faces Petition is the largest photo petition in the world.
