Photos from Alex Neve's visit to Chad.

The crisis in Darfur is no longer confined to Darfur. The conflict and widespread human rights abuses have been spilling across the border into neighbouring Chad. The recent Amnesty mission found that those abuses are now deeply entrenched in eastern Chad. The Darfur crisis is fast becoming a regional human rights tragedy.

As if it is not enough to face attackers pouring over the border from Darfur, civilians in eastern Chad have been abandoned by their own government as well. Chadian authorities have completely failed to even try to provide the people of eastern Chad with any protection from these increasing human rights abuses.

During Amnesty International's mission in November, we met with a handful of determined local human rights groups who are starting to speak up, to put pressure on the Chadian government to do more to protect civilians from these mounting attacks. The Chadian Association against Violence, the Chadian Association of Women Lawyers, the Association for the Promotion of Fundamental Freedoms in Chad, and the Chadian Association of Traditional Chiefs, together, need our help. These groups represent a ray of hope amidst the despair that has taken hold in eastern Chad. From Canada we can offer them help and encouragement, and contribute to ending the violence that has devastated the region.

Please, help us support these groups. Share some words of encouragement, and make a financial contribution of $2.00 per word to back up your support. Amnesty International Canada will send your words of hope and encouragement and all of the funds raised through this initiative directly to these groups in Chad.

Send a message of encouragement and hope to our friends in Chad during this time of crisis, and contribute $2.00 per word. Click here to add your message.

"As John Lennon said in this inspirational song, let\'s hope the New Year is a good one, without any fear. It\'s a dream, but one we can achieve if we choose not to turn our backs on the people living this tragedy. We wish you safety and peace. Graham and Carol, Unionville ON

Happy Xmas (War is Over), John Lennon, Yoko Ono
So this is Christmas
And what have you done
Another year over
And a new one just begun
And so this is Christmas
I hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
A very Merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let\'s hope it\'s a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
For weak and for strong
For rich and the poor ones
The world is so wrong
And so happy Christmas
For black and for white
For yellow and red ones
Let\'s stop all the fight
A very Merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let\'s hope it\'s a good one
Without any fear
And so this is Christmas
And what have we done
Another year over
A new one just begun
And so happy Christmas
We hope you have fun
The near and the dear one
The old and the young
A very Merry Christmas
And a happy New Year
Let\'s hope it\'s a good one
Without any fear
War is over, if you want it
War is over now
Happy Christmas
