08-08-88 - Yesterday (Sunday August 8th) marked the anniversary of a violent crackdown against protesters in Myanmar

On August 8, 1988, pro-democracy uprisings in Myanmar led to violence that shocked the world: More than 3,000 civilians were killed, as Myanmar's military government clamped down on protesters.

Two years later, an election was finally called and Aung San Suu Kyi won in a landslide - but she and many of her supporters were detained, and she remains under house arrest 20 years later.

Join us on the anniversary of the Myanmar uprising by calling for the release of Aung San Suu Kyi and more than 2,200 political prisoners who are wrongfully detained in Myanmar.
