All I say is that it is evident that the worlds leaders (including you Mr.Harper) does not care for the poor nations or the well being of citizens. When we sent our troops to Iraq this was like a "slap in the face" to all citizens suffering in Africa (who I remind you have been suffering for a long long time) because they people are going through the same struggles as those in Iraq if not worse. Not to discredit the importance of Iraqs' mission but how was this cause any more important then what is happening to women and children in the Democratic Republic of Congo, actually if you look at the two countries problems are almost identical so why the favortism I ask. Now that our troops are withdrawing from Iraq would it not make sense to deploy some in the Democratic Republic of Congo and continue to fight our supposed mission of bringing forth stable democratic governments to countries without them. Also to ensure that all rights and freedoms and granted to every individual in the world no matter their nationality or citizen. Frankly I hear a lot talk when it comes to issues like this in Africa and very little action in my mind and I think in the mind of many others the world has given up on Africa. I do applaud our previous efforts (Rwanda genocide) but as for our recent activities I cannot say the same. Would Africa have to become some type of terrorist threat or commit and act of terror against North America for us to finally go in and straighten things up because that seemed to get us into Iraq fairly quickly. Overall everyone should be treatly fairly and equally let us not forget The Universal Declaration of Human Rights; Article 2, Article 5 & Article 20 #2 (forced training of child soldiers) and Article 28... Will we only care once their problems becomes ours please prove me wrong Mr.Harper

We are so lucky to live in Canada where daily threats to our lives do not exist. It is our responsibility as a more fortunate country to help those who are endangered and tortured daily. When will Canada step up to the plate and open their eyes to the horror happening outside of our country?

Something must be done in this situation; as a country that prides itself on our legacy of peace keeping and the promotion of good values in foreign affairs, we have no choice but to do all that we can. Please place a focus on this and other issues of conflict in the developing world. This is every bit as important as issues like the financial crisis.

The fact that what is happening to civilians in the Congo is unthinkable for me, yet people are living through it and dying from it every day, is an incredibly unjust tragedy.

It's necessary to give the people, especially the children, in other countries the same opportunities us Canadians have here. It's unfair for us to be given the chance to help them and not take it. Please, please help to fight for the peace, however oxymoronic that may be, in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Sir, I believe there are few petitions worth signing aside from those concerning the peace and comfort of innocent people across the world. We're all the same and I believe if we can make a difference and avoid violence, that is an extremely wrothy cause.

I take this issue particularly personally because I just spent three months in South Africa, and saw, by the number of people who I became personally close with who were affected, the great reach of this crisis. I hope that you will understand the severety of the issue as well.

In a couple decades, we will look back on this occurrence.. just to think, how could we have let this go on for so long with out doing anything? Why did we let so many people die, when we have tools and power to help end this. we NEED to help our fellow man, before more innocent people are hurt and murdered.

The Democratic Republic of Congo is a country that has great potential to thrive if given the proper opportunities. Rape, slavery, and murder are all crimes here. Why shouldn't it be the treated with the same gravity for the innocent plebians of the DRC!

I Wanted to speak on about the name that canada has generated for itself as the peacekeeper, the justice bringer. I was wondering as to how we hope to maintain this name when we lack to bring efficent protection to those who are getting murdered so wrongly
Andrew Chambers Mr. Harper the Canadian government has an obligation to the world to prevent genocide. The millions of deaths that have occured as a result of this crisis fall to everyone and Canada must take a stand for what is right. After the genocide in WWII, the Rwanda genocide should have been prevented but the world fell silent. We said never again, but the indifference towards human rights continues today. As a country and a member of the UN Canada must intervene.
Sean Nagasaka Mr. Harper, all Canadians, including our highest ranking government officials like yourself must have a responsibilty to ask ourselves what would we do if our wife was in this situation, or our children were enslaved like the ones in congo? We sit here everyday and analyze how horrific this issue is, but yet make no effort to change it. I feel that with enough motivation, we can change, we can make a difference. But with no effort, we sit back everyday and watch as countries are literally dying for no reason.

After spending a great deal of time in my English class studying the Holocaust, I was inspired by Elie Wiesel the author of Night who suffered through unimaginable times, and yet uses his experiences and memories from this horrific event to speak out. He attempts to teach our generations of the horrible consequences of genocide. But are we listening? Right now across the world, away from safe and content Canada, hundreds of thousands of men, women and children are being murdered in the Democratic Republic of Congo conflict. During the Holocaust the Allies freed many European Countries from Nazi dictatorship, and till this day Canadian's are welcomed with great gratitude into these countries. So what is stopping us from doing the same in the Congo? The violence that has turned towards these innocent victims over resources is unacceptable. We do not choose our resources. In Canada we are very fortunate to have what we need in order to supply our population. But in the Congo, there is no need for added suffering. We need to step in and prevent this from continuing, it is not enough to make peace settlements that will not be followed through on. We cannot have them sign a piece of paper and then walk away, leaving them to face these atrocities on there own. We would not leave our children in a war zone, what is the difference for those children in the Congo? Each life is equal. Each country should stand together to ensure this. We cannot turn our back on those in times of need. I believe it's time we reached out, time we took a stand, time we stopped this. I don't know if the Prime Minister will read this or not. I hope he does, because as hard as these economic times in Canada may be, it is nothing compared to what he should see in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Thank you.

It comes to my concern that Canadians, being the peace keepers we are, fail to provide any sort of aid or support to help our fellow global citizens from this horrific genocide currently going on in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It's a matter of protecting the humanity of our World. Mr. Harper you are the one who sets the tone for our nation. If you take a step to take action we as a nation can save the lives of hundreds and thousand of innocent people. We cannot sit around and say "oh this is horrifying" and just go back to our dinner. Events like this has happened in the past and we all had stood up and promised this will not happen again. With Nazi Germany and Rwanada we cannot fall flat on our faces again. We need hope, we need to create a new generation of peace and this is our opportunity.
Jordan Rosenberg I am writing to express my concern and distress regarding the continued atrosoties occuring in the Democratic Repulic of Congo. A major change in the condition of the lives of the individuals residing in Congo must be made soon, before this genocide escalates to a horrific and uncontrolable level from which it cannot recover.
Barbora L. Prime Minister, I am writing to you as a concerned high school student of Canada. I truly bellieve that the citizens of this country need to come together and help make a difference. It is important to provide help to others in need. We need to treat others the way that we would want to be treated if this same conflict were happening in our country. We would want others to help us in a similar situation, therefore we have to take action and help.

We live in a country where evil is not so abundant. But we cannot take that for granted. We, the people, are the only ones who can perpetrate evil; therefore we have a moral responsibility to help stop it. Would you not agree? We cannot sit idly by while people are being raped, murdered, tortured, displaced; we have the power to save lives and we must use it. Let us become heroes.

As Canada's future i'm concerned about the people suffering around the world. We must insist that out governemnt use its influence to ensure the safety of innocent civilians in the Congo. We must help and keep peace in our world.
Tyler Epp I believe that action must be taken in this cause. I know we would not allow it to happen in Canada, so why would we allow it to happen somewhere else. Human lives take presidence over political roadblocks and we owe it to the world to help.

Please Mr. Harper, with all your influences and power/ position as prime Minister, put some actions in practice and help with deeds! DRC needs global help asap! Every second counts! Human rights violations in the DRC

•  Deliberately targeting civilians in a situation of armed conflict is a war crime

•  Continuing violence against women and children is one of the major barriers to establishing peace and stability in eastern DRC

•  Most of those fleeing the conflict are in a desparate situation, without sufficient food, water, medical supplies or shelter.
