April 28, 2012 will mark the fourth year that Yoga Day goes national. The yellow lotus At Amnesty International, we believe that even in the worst of conditions, change is possible. Over 50 years, our membership - 3 million ordinary people, globally - have changed minds, changed laws, and changed lives. This is why we have chosen the yellow lotus as our Yoga Day symbol. Just as the Amnesty candle shines a light on human rights abuses, the yellow lotus represents a unique opportunity to create positive change in the lives of others. Yoga Day 2012: Defending women's human rights defenders in Iran The Campaign for Equality was initiated by a group of Iranian women in 2006, who created a petition calling for an end to laws that discriminate against women. The response of the Iranian authorities to these activists collecting signatures for this petition has been brutal and repressive. Today, women’s rights defenders are serving prison sentences simply for demanding equality. Other activists are regularly followed, harrassed and intimidated. The Campaign for Equality has called on Amnesty International for support- and we’re determined to give it. You can increase pressure on Iranian authorities by supporting our work. By signing our postcard action, you can increase the pressure on the Iranian authorities and help keep the women involved safe and out of prison.
