Be an Amnesty International Yoga Day Champion

Profile: Michelle Doyle

Michelle

I have been involved with Amnesty International's Yoga Day for Human Rights since 2009.

The practice of yoga is about cultivating peace. When I observed how tirelessly Amnesty works to sow the seeds of peace and human rights around the world, I was honoured to volunteer for Yoga Day.

By sowing the seeds of kindness and compassion in ourselves through the practice of yoga, we can extend that to the rest of the world via Amnesty's work. Yoga Day allows everyone, regardless of their experience with yoga, to enjoy the many benefits of this ancient practice, at the same time have fun and support a cause very near and dear to our hearts.

I look forward to meeting even more participants at Amnesty International's Toronto Office for Yoga Day 2012!

How you can help:

Talk about it:
If you frequent a yoga studio, encourage them to hold a Yoga Day for Human Rights on April 28. We can provide you with a Yoga Day kit to pass on to the studio.

Think of friends you have or people you know that love yoga, or would like to experience it for the first time. Invite them to organise their first yoga day.

If you are organising your own Yoga Day, send a press release or public service announcement about Yoga Day to your local media. Please contact us at yoga@amnesty.ca if you’d like to receive templates to use.

Tap into your virtual communities:
Why not share the www.yogaday.ca page on your Facebook page, or tell others that follow you on your Twitter account, or other online spaces?

Think outside the box:
Yoga Day for Human Rights is not just for studios. You can approach your workplace, school or even community centre to organise a Yoga Day. You can invite one or more local yoga instructors to teach at a school or workplace event.

How we can help:

• We can mail you as many Yoga Day kits as you need to share with local studios or instructors.
• We can provide you with promotional flyers and posters
• We can answer your questions, and provide advice or help with troubleshooting.

We’re here to help! Please contact us.

Thank you for helping to protect and promote human rights around the world!
