    Just Film Festival

Refugees making their way from Syria to Sweden in black tie. A drag queen fighting against the rigid structures of a Catholic country. Communities resisting pipelines and mega-projects. Documentary films have much to tell us about the world around us!

The Just Film Festival takes place March 30 – April 1, bringing compelling stories about social justice and human rights to Vancity Theatre, featuring themes ranging from the migrant crisis to the human toll of the actions of extractive industries in developing countries.

Jointly arranged by CoDevelopment Canada, Amnesty International Vancouver, Village Vancouver, and Vancity Theatre, the annual festival presents 14 documentaries including three student films from Langara College. Just Film will open Thursday March 30 at 7 p.m. with an exclusive Vancouver premiere: the widely-awarded and emotionally stirring film, On the Bride's Side, which captures the flight of five people fleeing war-torn Syria, masquerading as a wedding party.

On Friday, Latin American issues will be in the spotlight, as the festival features Sundance Festival Best Debut Feature winner, When Two Worlds Collide, which reveals the Indigenous struggle for existence in the Peruvian Amazon, as the local elite promotes the expansion of large-scale industries int the Amazon.

The closing film of Just Film Festival will be a Vancouver premiere of the critically-acclaimed and highly entertaining The Queen of Ireland, following the Irish drag queen Panti Bliss aka Rory O’Neill on his quest to make his country more accepting towards the LGBTQ community.
